Fathers Day Surprise

Happy Fathers Day!

I have been away from writing for a while (and I'll explain why in another post shortly) but wanted to wish my dad and all the other dads out there, a happy fathers day! A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from a friend that was looking to do surprise photo session as a gift for her husband (also a friend). She didn't know where or when this would take place but wanted it done in time to deliver on fathers day.

I have known Jessica and Ian for quite a while, as we both lead worship at the same Church a few years ago. Ian is a great musician, and he currently makes his rounds throughout Columbus. Jessica didn't know how or when, but she wanted photos that captured their 3 children jamming out as a part of a band. A few messages back and forth and we settled on a evening that Ian would be out of the house and preoccupied.

We met up at a parking lot in downtown Powell and had the kids set up with a snare drum, a mic stand, and one of Ian's acoustic guitars. Jessica tried to hand their oldest, Olivia, the guitar and instantly said "No way, Dad doesn't let us touch his guitars!" Jessica replied with some along the lines of "too bad" because we have pictures to take (haha)

The next 15-20 minutes were full of random sounds, from random strums of the guitar strings to the loud banging of the snare drum echoing off the surrounding trees and buildings. Once they all saw how fun the drums were we had to take turns going out seeing who could make the most noise.

It's little times like these that I am reminded how grateful I am to be able to do what I do. I am able to capture moments that tell and story and when looked at in the future they bring you back to that place. In Ian's case, he will remember the fathers day where his family had a "band photoshoot" so he could have a picture for his office.

Thanks for checking out this behind the scenes from a recent session. There is much more to come in 2017 and I am so excited to share it with all of you. Be sure to visit and "Like" our Facebook page, and also follow us on Instagram at @LifeByPictures.

Again I want to wish all the fathers out there a Happy Fathers Day! Here is a throwback to a photo of my dad and I from a New York Mets game in 2015.
